Meena Anand

Founding Trustee

Portfolio NED, CEO & Founder, The Careers Company

Meena is former HR Director with a long career in Financial Services.  She has recently pivoted her career to focus on the core issues of social mobility, justice and inclusion.  She does this through both her portfolio of non-executive roles (in healthcare, housing and education) and her fledgling career development business – The Careers Company.

Born in Brixton to immigrant parents, Meena has first-hand understanding of the power of financial inclusion and freedom.  Her wish, through the financial education work of Hyfa, is to create choice for those individuals that are currently under-represented and often underserved by workplaces and society.  Choice to pursue their career, financials, family and societal dreams.

Meena is on the Inspire List (Trustees Unlimited) and has been recognised as one of the 100 Women to watch to be a FTSE 350 NED by Cranfield in 2021.

She is especially passionate about how financial literacy can improve social mobility among under-represented groups, a cause to which she has dedicated her life.

Calvin is an experienced and award-winning leader who has worked extensively across sectors in London and the South East.  Born in Jamaica, Calvin has British heritage that predates the Empire Windrush, he is now father to 4 children including 2 daughters and 2 sons.  Calvin has over 15 successful years working in a global financial services company and has gained a Diploma and an MSc in Banking; he has also achieved Chartered Banker status (MCBI) at the prestigious Chartered Banker Institute.

As a senior leader in financial services working directly with the public, Calvin often saw first-hand the positive and negative impact that financial literacy has on people and businesses, particularly for young/older people, women, poor people, and African/Caribbeans.  This was the basis for starting Goldstar Consultancy which is an employee financial wellbeing company.  He has embarked on a 3-year PhD in Economics and Finance where he hopes to further develop his understanding of the causes and long-term solutions to financial exclusion.

Calvin is proud to support Hyfa Foundation to lend his knowledge and experience to an organisation that makes real change, for real people.

He is tireless in promoting and increasing financial inclusion, particularly among Afro-Caribbean communites.

Stephen Mix

Founding Trustee (Chair)

Founder, Hyfa

Over his career, Stephen has run his own companies and worked with a broad range of family businesses, entrepreneurs and self-employed workers to grow their own successful businesses. He has experience of many different types of companies, both large and small, even managing a portfolio of companies on behalf of one of the Dragons from BBC’s Dragon’s Den.

This has allowed him to work alongside people from all different backgrounds and circumstances – from young entrepreneurs, to single mothers, retirees and immigrants starting from scratch in the UK – all striving to build lives for themselves, their families, and achieve their version of freedom.

He gained formal, self-funded, financial education by way of an MBA from Imperial College Business School.

Stephen’s combination of financial education and unique professional experience provides him with a practical perspective of financial literacy; how it can empower individuals, strengthen communities and benefit society.

He is particularly enthusiastic about building confidence in individuals to set up their own business as a primary or secondary source of income.
